Hi I'm posting two pics of my Ricordea Florida doing it's own thing. Just seems to be going somewhere And I was just hoping some one could explain what it is doing. It dosen't bother me I'm just curious as I'm new this is my first reef and learning. I put it in 4/24 and being new left that big frag plug I think I could have trimmed it a bit but again being new put it in that way and I seems to have a mind of it's own first it dropped down on the rocks a bit and now it's moving to the right wonder where it's going. The original spot might not have been ideal so the mushroom is just going to cruise around a little bit and see what's out there. No worries.

Most likely lighting or flow that it is trying to find what it wants. The goods news is that when they move they tend to drop babies, but not always.

Thx I'm just checking it out and seeing how things go as I have a bunch more right now that I'm trying to figure out the best placement for . And like dam check that out it moved but why and like u said it's looking for light or flow but u can learn from that I would think as far as placing corals in? While on the subject I have 2 different Chalice corals. You can put them next to each other right? Like 2" apart?
Thx

I don’t know about the chalice. I have a Hollywood stunner chalice that has 4” sweeper tentacles. So they could prob reach each other, I just don’t know if they will fight. Prob a good question for a new thread.

Yea I hear you about that and thats what I am thinking about and trying to learn as far as what u can put close to each other and they can like share the same space on the rock rock that's why I thought 2 of the same coral like the Chalis would be okay like that.....This is all new to me and the placing of the different corals is not one of my strong points. And I procrastinate over how to do it if you know what I mean

Mine is also on the move....looking for better real estate I guess :)....whatever keeps them happy..it looks great as does yours! Continued good luck to you!

Wow. That is really cool. I never knew they could even do something like that. I have one too just sitting in a frag rack. My question to you is........
How did it move off the frag plug? Was it not glued down?

IMG_6291.jpeg Here's a pic from 4/24/18 about a week after I got it. I'm sure there was some SG on it but as far as moving and splitting it did it all on it's own. And I'm new like I said so I'm just watching. I can only think that it's looking for light or Flow. Another pic before it split... IMG_6812.JPG IMG_6418.JPG

Just finding its happy place. I've been doing this about 10 years and when I was new I wanted to cram as much in my tank and on rocks as I could. I started a new tank in December and told myself I'm going to give each piece at least 6" of real estate to grow and reproduce. Something to think about with those chalice frags.

Up- date on moving and still wondering where it will finally decide to stay anyone have idea's ? IMG_6964.JPG IMG_7107.JPG

Mine moved also. They will find their spot, and when they do they will multiply fairly quickly.

Mine has moved like 20" over the last few weeks and right now my lighting is different so guess that will upset it. Don't know just have to watch
