I'm so excited, we should be picking up our first anemone tomorrow. It's a little one, very bright. I will of course discuss details with my LFS guy, but if anyone has some advice to give, experiences, etc., that an anemone virgin should know, please share. I can't wait to post a pic!

What kind of anemome is it? a lot of times though, anemomes where go where they want to be. Can be a bit frustrating.

You don't get to pick where you want to put your anemone. I put mine in the far left corner of my five foot tank. The following morning it was all the way to the right....and yes, every coral it passed, it stung.

I'm not sure what kind. Hehe. Pretty sure it's not a bubble tip, I've never seen them swell, long thin tentacles and the colors are pink, orange, yellow, green. Very pretty

I did know that they will move themselves around, luckily we don't have a ton of corals yet, and none of them are really big. Not saying they won't get stung, but it won't be devastating if it stings a couple.

Post a picture of it. Some move more often. If it is type that wanders or it is not happy with your water you could have issues with it getting too close to powerheads.

an anemone is a critter with their own game plan... there is no way you are going to keep it where you want it to live.. We have all been there, and all know the hard facts.

Post up some pics when you can, I would love to see what you get!

Use a giant barnacle or large turbo snail shell as a suggested home and shove it in there when you get it and whenever it tries to leave put it back in the barnacle or shell. Usually it stays after the second or third time

I agree with this. I placed two in my SPS tank that have been fine for a few months now. One has moved out and on the back wall but still fine where he is for now.

HAHA that's awesome.
So the one I wanted was a Pink Rose Bubble tip, which is below, but I wasn't able to get that one today bc it had its foot shoved down in this little hole in the rock, and they weren't able to get it out.

I got one a bit similar, hopefully it will color up a bit. I'll post a pic of that one when I get it in and it opens up

Cool that has great color! Hope yours colors up as well
I know, the color of it is awesome. I've never seen one like that. Not that I'm an expert or anything.

Don't forget about acclimating it to your lights.

Is there recommendations? I acclimated it as instructed, dripped for an hour (I ended up going a little over getting distracted with kids, ugh) but I wasn't told anything about the lights, so I figured it was ok. My lights are not nearly as good or as strong intensity as the radeons they have running in there.

If you have less lighting, then it shouldn't be an issue. But, if you were going from lower to higher, than you would need to acclimate. I tend to leave the lights as they normally are, and put some layers of window screening b/t the lights and the tank, with removing a layer every 5-7 days.

Question: is there a way to introduce the clowns to it? I mean, they won't just smell it or anything. They're not huge travelers around the tank, Pretty much stay in their chosen area. So how can I "show" them that "hey! There's an anemone over here!"?

There are a few tricks, but the easiest is give them time. If your clowns are young. They may have no idea what an anemone is. Most are captive bred, so there was no one to show them or the need to host one.

In time they may venture to it. But if it is a small anemone two clowns may cause damage. Give both time let it happen on its own. To naturally help entice them near the anemone with food. Anemone are for protection with they are not needing it, it will take so time.

That is a good idea. I'll try dropping the food closer to it. I know that they won't ALL be able to share it right now, there's 4 clowns in there at the moment, so if this is successful maybe I can get another one for them to share later.
Here's where he decided to hunker down... Nice bc it's away from everything, but still, not very noticeable. LOL

And here is one of the clown's corners and it's way off in the distance, like "over here!!!"

I have a condy and it was a pain introducing it into the tank. For the longest time, it wouldn't even take hold of anything. I would plant it down and come morning, I would find it tumbleweeding around the tank. It finally took hold in the far back corner, but it didn't get any light back there and didn't get fed since I couldn't get to him. I had to try to move him closer to the front and in a better lighting environment. He was pretty sick. Bleached and lost half of his tentacles. Now, he's doing much better since I moved him. He is growing his tentacles back and his color is much better, too.
