Rimless aquarium overhang

I picked up a 25 gallon rimless aquarium to be used as a permanent coral quarantine tank.

Unfortunately both the front and back panels overhang over the stand. The bottom glass panel sits on top of the cabinet though. Pictures attached.

Is this a problem with the front and back panels? Does this increase the potential of the panels and silicone breaking?

Or should I pick up plywood for all panels to sit on top of? It’s my understanding any water pressure on the front and rear panels are pushing out and not down.

The glass is 8 mm by the way.

I wouldn't risk it, all of the pressure of the front and back panes are relying on that silicone/glue.

For a small tank you can likely get away with it—but why risk it. While the load of water is all on the bottom panel you are transmitting the weight of the front and rear panels in shear thru the silicone sealant—not ideal. Get a small piece of 3/4” plywood and use iron-on edge trim to finish it.

You could also get a piece of plywood cut to order and place it atop what you have the tank currently set on.

Cheap, simple no worries.
