Rimless canopy

So I’m looking at a rimless tank maybe but I want a canopy. I don’t see any canopies of a rimless that sits close to the tank like a standard rimmed tank with a canopy sits, so you won’t get any light spill in the room. Do you think if I build a canopy and hang it from the ceiling with those little cable pulls if that would work? So I could have it close to the tank and raise it when I go to feed. Thanks

Don't see why not. The big thing is going to be able to support the weight. If you can attach to your joists or rafters I think you'll be fine.

I've seen people put strips of 2x4 (sanded and stained/painted) on the ceiling attached to at least 2 joists/rafters then attach lighting from that. I definitely wouldn't use any type of drywall anchors or toggle bolts.

Thanks a lot - everyone I see has the canopy hanging about 4-8 inches if not even higher about the tank. I was wondering why don’t they have it hung closer to the tank so the light bleeding will be less

Yea I know what you mean. I think its to show off the look of the rimless tank and trapping a descent amount of the light. I used to have a 100g with a full canopy and I liked it but personally I like the look of my rimless with the lighting hung from the ceiling. But yea no light bleed would be nice too.
