I'm in the process of setting up my new 60 Cube. This weekend I decided to build a canopy for my tank. I installed hangers above my tank so that I could hang the canopy if necessary, but I am curious if there are any risks to having the canopy rest directly on the tank?

Here's a link to my build thread: https://www.reef2reef.com/forums/member-tanks/140732-joe-cs-60g-cube-build.html

And a couple of pics of my canopy:

The canopy should be fine resting on top, would recommend ventilation hole on top or back wall. As for height of canopy, depends on how you like the lights to hit everything if the intensity is too much you can suspend it

Yea...I probably should have added a couple more photos. The canopy I built has a large vent directly above my light fixture.

Thank you for responding to my question too. I figured the canopy would be able to rest on the glass, but I wanted to confirm. Thanks!

Nice canopy you made.

Thank you!

I think it will serve me well and once I get the proper tools (table saw, mitre box, etc.) I will use this as a template and build another with nicer details. I get to paint it this weekend and start my tank up. I can't wait.

Here's a pic of the cube all set up. My only concern at this point is that the plumbing is "flushing" at random intervals and I can't figure out why...I'm a bit tired and will probably study it more tomorrow. Any tips/ tricks are welcome. It can get a bit annoying to have a tank sound like a toilet flushing a few times an hour...

Yea, unfortunately...it literally acts as if it is flushing...the water level suddenly dips in the overflow chamber and the water is flushed out, then the water level raises again.

May need a larger pump to keep up with your drain.

If your pump is pushing XX and your drain wants to take XXX then your drain will suck the XXX making the flushing / drain quickly. Maybe...

Yea, it is going to take some tinkering. The flushing happens more frequently when the return pump is pushing more volume. I think it's an issue with the amount of air pushing the water through. I may have to increase the diameter of the tube allowing air flow through the drain which should increase draining efficiency.

I had the same issue and did exactly this and it fixed the problem.
