Rimless Tank Support

I have to wonder if that stand was really built for a trimmed tank, 1/8" ply is doing nothing for support of bottom as rimless typically needs.

I would drain the water into brutes, remove tank, make corrections.

It will be a headache to try to make corrections w/ tank on top of stand, and it would be a dangerous headache if tank was full.

3/4" ply is needed, and it should have a couple 1x or 2x braces under ply as well running front to back

I bought the tank and stand from the same local company.. who also did the installation. I would hope they knew what they were doing. If C2C says it needs support, i'll be calling the company who did the install and they can come over and fix the issue.

I'm glad i read that 60g cube post, and checked to see what was supporting my tank. Hopefully i'm just being paranoid and all is well.

Just going by pics, it looks like a standard trimmed tank stand to me, though usually they don't even do the 1/8" ply, so yes the comment made about thicker than normal glass, or a bottom we can not see that is not a typical rimless bottom could be possible I guess, but it would not be the most common rimless design

I called C2C at 5:15pm est this afternoon and they were gone for the day but i'll be making that call in the morning. I will go to bed praying they say that's it's fine.

If the bottom is 1/2" then I think you need not worry. I'd be curious to know what Chris at C2C says though (and I would follow his advice).

I hope you're right. I'll update the thread after i speak with them tomorrow.

Thanks for all the support everyone.

Water is something like 8+ pounds per gallon, right? Anyway, we are all pulling for you— we want you to enjoy your beautiful tank for a long time to come. The consensus seems to be to fix the problem now, and be worry-free for the future. Keep, us posted!

I spoke to the company who bought the tank and stand and did the install. He's not taking any responsibility... It's a shame and just bad business. He was super defensive and said that it's not his problem. I'm working with Pat at C2C on how to brace the tank.

Whelp! He wrote me back and said he spoke with the cabinet manufacture and that it does need to be supported. He is going to come over with his crew on an upcoming Saturday to dismantle, add support and replace everything. Good stuff!

Thanks to everyone who chimed in on this thread. I really appreciate it!

So who’s fixing the problem... C2C or the installer?

Glad to read this. I originally thought the glass was 1/2 when I saw your pic and not 1/4 inch which was nice to see your correction. Even nicer to see that the stand is going to be done and made right by the builder.

Great job to all contributors to this enlightening thread.

Always best to ask the folks that actually make the tank. Kinda scary that installers clearly don't know the products they sell.

The installer took responsibility after talking to the cabinet supplier and is going to support the tank for me. At first he was very defensive so it's nice he came around!

Excellent to hear some good has come out of that other sad thread, atleast nothing was lost when his tank cracked (which to me anyway was due to improper support and nothing else), someone should link him over here so he knows his loss helped atleast one person out BIG TIME! Very good the installer is stepping up and getting things sorted out for you. :) hopefully with that catch you can enjoy your tank for many many more years!

@scott4077 :)

Came across this thread....I don't understand why a rimless tank needs full bottom support? A rimmed tank doesn't and is only supported on the perimeter....why can't a rimless be supported the same way? (Assuming glass thickness is the same)
