Did you run into any problems when you removed the rim later on ?

I believe it is there for a reason. Would not recommend that you remove it.

Yes ... Rimless tanks have thicker glass ...

I almost lost my 72 bowfront because the piece going across the middle cracked ..
Flimsy piece of plastic you wouldn't think was much of a brace ....
Then I noticed the crack when somebody walked in front of the tank in the front glass "wobbled " ....
I only noticed it because of an odd wave on the surface ...

It’s a 20 gallon so there’s no center brace

Check the thickness on a rimless 20 gallon ....
Then check yours ....
If it's a good brand you maybe okay....
If it's a Petco dollar per gallon sale .... Like the one I use to make my sump ... They're not much more than a thin window pane glass

I think he’s asking for people who kept one successfully

Yes it’s from petco

Don’t do it. There are two scenarios here: it works or it doesn’t. If it works, great. If it doesn’t, you end up with saltwater damage all over the place, dead fish, dead coral, and some serious electrical risks. The cost of a failure is astronomical compared to the cost of a new or used rimless tank.

The tanks are framed for a reason.

To reiterate the above posters, if you want your 20 to be rimless, go buy a rimless 20g. The risk is not worth the reward. Alternatively you could remove it and try to eurobrace it, but I am not sure that is the look you are going for.

My sump is a 15g long with the rim removed.

But 1 is not filled all the way.

2 Has acrylic baffles that are attached on three sides adding support as well.

Besides glass thickness you should check all of the seems. They where the rim was these could be sloppy or damaged by removing the rim. Eurobracing a 20 gallon is not particularly difficult the glass needed is not that large or thick, so not heavy. And since only 12” wide rather simple to reach both sides as one person.

Measure inside not outside will look nicer.

Thank you everyone! Time to spend more money
