I use the smaller one and there is no need to use filter bags, just fill it with the desired amount of Rowaphos straight into the interior plastic canister shown below. Mine doesn't have a sponge on the bottom, but it looks like the larger ones do. Once I reconnect the reactor, I flush it with at least five gallons of water, turning the supply on and off at times as it seems to flush it a bit better.

What’s the best pump to use on a reactor w rowa? Been useing a maxi jet 1200 and seems to clog pretty fast.

You are suppose to have a wool filter fleece on top and the bottom of the Rowa Phos, and do not rinse.

your pump shouldn't have anything to do with the media clogging. gfo just seems to be a little labor intensive and in my experience running it required flow adjustment a couple times a day for the first few days and calmed down a bit after. I did find that my reactor definitely worked better when the inlet was drawing the water from a clean source (behind media, or filter socks) than straight from the display.

Feel free to do what you want, after seeing what comes out of rowaphos I'd rinse it no matter what instructions say. They don't give a reason why to not rinse if your not using a reactor? Sounds suspicious to me. Rowaphos always worked good but like any GFO or "low dust" carbon I will always rinse no matter what the manufacturer claims.

I rinse but I am using a reactor but if I was using in a bag I would rise also.

Don’t understand why they say rise on and not the other don’t make much sense to me just my opinion.
