Rinsing a new ATO jug

Hello Everyone!

I recently purchased this 5 gallon ATO jug after making sure it was BPA free

And when I first opened it there was a very strong "plastic smell" that I can't imagine being good for a reef environment. I filled it about a quarter with plain tap water, capped it, shook the hell out of it, drained and repeated about 4 times and seems to have removed what I first smelt and know it just smells like what I'd expect of a wet plastic container. My plan was to just repeat the process one more time with tap water and then two more times with RODI

Does this sound like I've been thorough enough? is there another way that this is often done? I tried searching on here but nothing came up, probably because few people have my level of paranoia

I woudnt worry about a plastic smell. I think a good rinsing is enough.

I would rinse with white vinegar. After sloshing around some white vinegar rinse it and than wipe down with either tap water or RO water... RO water is the best move though.
