Rinsing Carbon

Is this going into a reactor? If so, can you place the output of the reactor into a bucket and run your tanks water through the reactor(during a WC would be a good time to do this)

Exactly what I do. After about 2 gallons the water is running clear.

not going into a reactor, i use "the Bag" fill it and run it under my RO tap on the faucet. Problem is that is super slow, so to rinse takes forever.

True indeed slow!
I fill my reactor put the ro line in and wait till its clear.
luckily I only do it every 3 weeks :-)

Nice ZO6!

Thanks
you know... i have 2 reactors laying there not being used... I can actually use that instead, just need to plumb them.
I have a reactor cut into my chiller output but will have to change the design as the chiller is only installed for the summer but so much easier to rinse carbon :-)

Now that I use ROX I do not rinse at all, but previously with Marineland Black Diamond, I rinsed in tap. I don't think there's enough organic matter is a reasonable amount of tap water to significantly deplete it. :)

I rinse mine in tap, goes in a reactor, and fires right up. No problems for the year I've been doing it.

the old timers would crush it to a powder and trow it in the tank, made the skimmer go crazy so maybe not rinsing is a good thing

I fill the reactor with dry carbon or gfo the run the output into a bucket until it's clear. I only do this when I change the water and use water that is will be replacing anyway.

Is it just a precaution to rinse carbon or has anyone actually had bad things happen?

If i think about it carbon dust cant be that bad can it?

Wouldn't running the reactor into a bucket count as rinsing.

Yes, that's what I do, during a WC(post #3). Another precaution I like to take, is to run the GAC reactor in a reverse flow to prevent any movement(tumble), and use an extra sponge or two.
