Well while my tank is fallow, I decided that now was as good of a time to do a thorough cleaning of my sump and equipment. And rid my display of some cyano I've been battling. I noticed some buildup of detritus and some red slime algae growing in sump. So out came all of the stuff and into a vinegar bath. I then noticed my chaeto looked sort of red in areas. I was afraid that I was losing chaeto growth due to the red slime taking over all the space in the ball. I had some salt water mixed already so I figured what would it hurt to rinse it? this is the water after initial rinsing... the second is a after rinse tumbling in some new salt water. Idk if its normal for people to rinse their chaetomorpha, but after seeing this today, I think I may start doing this much more often, this may have been a build up of nutrients and fueling my cyano. figured I would share this because I dont think I have ever read anywhere about rinsing chaeto, trimming yes, but not rinsing.

sure did, hopefully it grows better now. :) @Ludders, how often to you clean yours?
I have mine in a chaeto reactor, so I usually give the reactor a clean once a week with a water change and just remove the excess chaeto. It grows pretty quickly, so the longest I leave it is 2 weeks. I just rinse it whilst it's all apart.
