Not sure if anything change in 2020, just want to check with R2R to see if ya still rinsing live sand. It’s the Caribsea Fiji pink 20lb bags.

thanks!

Rinsing with fresh or saltwater?

rinse with tap. endless
final evacuation rinse in saltwater.

to under rinse is the crime.

*let the record reflect that sand grains look like the grain canyon of surface area under a scanning electron microscope.

tap water is a poor sterilizer of cold flat polished steel; whorls ridges and crannies stand no chance of being sterilized by tap water. only web forums attribute total weakness to adhered bacteria, meanwhile in hospital labs everywhere

there is one kind of sand we dont pre rinse

the kind where when you pick up and inspect a handful, its moving

Sort of a pre-rinse. I drained the sand into a colander and then let all the water drain out. Then just shook the colander in fresh saltwater to try and remove dust and fine particles.

Looks like the norm here is to rinse it. I am changing water tomorrow, and will just lightly rinse it with 3 buckets of tank water vs 2-3 bags of 20lb.

Rinsed with a net one bucket of saltwater per 20lb bag then dumped them in. Still debating if I should add the clarifier that comes with it

I've always rinsed and rinsed my sand.
I always use dry sand and it usually really needs it.
I've seen tanks where the person didn't and they looked like milkshakes for a couple days.

The sand I wanted dry or alive almost the same price. I didn’t rinse a lot, just a bit.

I know some setup sponge filters ( between bubble traps) and filter socks to help clear the water faster.

I got the bubble trap. I dumped the bio magnetic clarifiers that came with the live sand, what the heck. I also put some filter floss in the filter socks as well.
