Just wanted to share with you guys a rather negative experience with this goby,
I was preforming a water change the way I normally do every week.
as I was checking water perms befor adding to the tank. My orange spotted goby jumped out, he thought all was good till my corgi(dog) pumpkin snatched him up , I turned around to bone crunching..... sadly there was nothing I could do.

remember to replace lid as evenly as possible when refilling or emptying your tank.

RIP OSG

but the circle of life continues, atleast the meat didn’t go to waste: just hope my corgi will be okay not sure if Gobys are poisons, was probably the most expensive meal my corgi has had

I know my mandarin has a toxic mucus coat but not sure about orange spotted goby

RIP goby your pistol shrimp and myself will miss you dearly

I think a similar thing has happened to my spotted goby, I was working in the tank a few days ago with the cover off, and he’s disappeared although I haven’t found him yet!

They have a nasty habit of launching themselves like missiles to oblivion!

Condolences for your loss. I always worry about my fish darting out with the lid off. My orange spot tends to stay in its hole when i am vacuuming. I do maybe a 10% water removal in the DT just to vacuum the sand then do another 20+ % from the sump. I then refill the sump and turn on the return pump. this way, the lid is off for very little time. I also use a turkey baster to suck out any poop and other floaties during the week just to cut down on vacuuming time too. My CUC does a pretty good job keeping the DT clean so far.

I had a glass top on but there was a tiny space between where glow enters that has never been covered it’s aprox 1/2”wx1”L hole I assume he somehow flipped his way out, crawled from the back of the tank over the glass top under the scorching lights as I had my lights on “cleaning mode” bright yellow light. Helps me see poop Better. Anyways then me mush have jump from the tank that is 5’4” from the floor. Then we’ll I’m sure you all know what helped next I’ve had this goby from 1 inch to 4inch never jumped before.

his tank mates were,
1 male dragon pipefish really peaceful
1 mandarin goby really peaceful
1 Clarki clown that spends almost 100% of the time in his seabea friend.
1 pistol shrimp
2 scarlet hermits
And a bunch of other various cuc and what not.

second goby in 2 years. First was a diamond goby late night had a mesh lid and a smacked through it and the wonds were too dire I believe he broke his back on the jump out . just have bad luck with gobys I guess

Bummer to hear. A fish with personality no doubt
