RIP Shrimpy...we'll miss you

Unfortunately my elegance ate Shrimpy today, my skunk shrimp. Did anyone know they would do this?? I was kind of surprised. I miss Shrimpy already. RIP....

Bummer! I didn't know that they could do this, but I have seen my elegance move frags that were in its way.

Definitely ate him... he molted last night and I the molt was already gone...plus it was a whole shrimpy in the grasp of the mean elegance

If the shrimp molted last night it's outter shell wasn't fully harden and if it tried to walk on the elegance which has a very powerful sting. The elegance probably stung and killed the shrimp.

you really think he wasn't hard enough? it had been 18hrs since he molted at least. He usually molts shortly after lights out. I'm still very sad. He is the first guy I have lost since setting up the tank last october...

It can take upto 72 hours to fully harden.

You can keep them both you don't have choose. You just have to remember you will have some casualties in this hobby. You can't control the shrimp but I won't feed by the elegance after the has molted.

So sorry to see/hear about Shrimpy... I love my cleaner shrimp. Even if he hides most of the day... He still comes out when he sees me walk up to the tank.

Sorry to hear about shrimpy, makes sense about it still being soft from the molt and being stung. Yes there are always some losses in the hobby but it is never easy.

Well the elegance ended up spitting out half of partially digested shrimpy...maybe he didn't taste good
