So, my second oldest fish is (was) a royal gramma that I got in 2015. It was probably 2 inches when I bought it. Quite a few people who bought coral from me in the last year or so commented on how big it was, about 5 inches long...I didn't really keep track of how big it was supposed to be, lol.

Recently, it started to get "dusky" patches which I know happens when they get older - the equivalent of going grey maybe.

He was hiding more the past two weeks so I figured he was on his way out and this morning I noticed something strange with my RBTA - lo and behold, it was the tail end of the gramma sticking out of the nem's face! I freaked for a second and then snatched it out of the tank without getting a photo.

Here are a couple pics of him in better days.

That’s what happens in nature when a fish is done swimming they go head first into a predators mah. It would have been a good meal for RBTA but I suspect that the tank parameters would move towards a high nutrient system.
I can sleep, my uncle called yesterday and said he was ready to go. Sorry about your Gramma. These things are not good.

Ok, I'm confused; is your uncle sick? Or were you just making a joke... uncle, gramma, other extended family...?

I should never post during sleepless hours when my mind is awash with grief and anxiety.

Yes, my uncle is in the hospital, unlike your fish which was removed from the mouth of your anemone.

I have had many fish vanish completely into my Colorado Sunburst, presumably?

I’m sorry about your loss, I wasn’t trying to be funny or mock. I’m not cruel but I’m not very sensitive either. Stress and grief shut down my cognitive function and I become completely automated, I breath and grieve.

My uncle is the last of my mom’s siblings to be alive. He was my favorite uncle/person since I can remember. I am so thankful he has lived 97 years.

Sorry for my confusion in the response here.

5 inches, and at least 8 years. Rest in piece bud.
My gramma was my first purchase and I'll be sad when it goes.
There's something comforting about it being your RBTA - he didn't get snatched up in the wild by a big fish; it was his time and you gave him a great life

No need for you to apologize. I'm so sorry about your uncle and I'm glad you have such fond memories of him.
That's why I wanted to clarify what you meant... I didn't want to be insensitive to your grief. {{hugs}}

Honestly, I'm ok with it. It's definitely not fun to lose a pet, but having a fish die of old age is the best possible long term outcome...
