Not exactly sure what happened to my sail fin today, but came back to a huge gash in the dorsal fin.

Have had some nip marks from the hippo Tang in the past but nothing like this

Looks like tang aggression at it's best.

Do you have other tangs in addition to the hippo and the YT?

Hippo, yellow, and sail fin

The hippo and yellow were added together and never had problem. Added the sail fin about a month ago. Had a couple nips the first week but nothing major.

Don't know if I can catch either at this point without draining the tank down

@4FordFamily do you have any suggestions here?

The unsub is right below the Sailfin.

Tangs fight, particularly within the same genus. Gets worse if they are crowded - how big is the tank? Always amuses me when folks say that their tangs are 'friends'. No friends; uneasy tolerance. In my 450 the purple and yellow are always going at it. I regularly see torn fins. They heal! Now, if you start seeing body wounds, or one of them is hiding - that's when intervention/removal is required. Until then, it's just tangs being tangs.

Tank is 190g

Haven't seen any body wounds. The past ripped fins only took a couple days to heal.

Hopefully it heals quickly, and that's all I have to deal with is ripped fins.

Would a stress coat product help in healing?

It’ll heal up as long as the badgering isn’t serious. Highly nutritional food offerings will help substantially. Add selcon, zoecon, or vita chem to foods to help :)

Mine do this sometimes too! Had 9 tangs in 300gal. Was ok as long as no body wounds like someone said already. Will heal in a couple of days. Nori will help too. Good luck!
