I have no idea what got to my toadstool but overnight something seems to have taken a large chunk out of it. Below is a FTS taken on Tuesday evening and you can see it is just fine there. I fed my tank last night and everything looked fine. This morning when I looked over my tank before heading to work, I found a gaping hole in it (see picture below). None of my fish have ever nipped at it in the 6 months I have had it. The current inhabitants are: 1 each of clown, royal gramma and yellow watchman goby. Assorted CUC and a pistol shrimp.

Any thoughts on what might have caused this damage overnight? Anything I should be looking out for? Water parameters are all spot on as of this past Saturday test.

I would say sending off babies also but that looks a bit rough. It is how they can reproduce called budding. Generally they will start as a small hole that stretches and gets bigger until the new piece is released.

The only reason why I suspect some critter or pest might have gotten to it is because of how suddenly it happened (overnight). Unless there was a small tear in the folds that I could not see. I looked observed the tank after lights out the past couple of nights and have not spotted anything. I sliced if the piece hanging with a razor blade and have put it on a drag disc. I might just end up with a baby! The main coral is healing up just fine and doesn't seem too stressed.
