RipTide Gyre Pump

Have you all seen this? Pretty sweet... Maxspect came out with a new pump aimed at creating gyre flow. Knda neat.
MaxSpect Riptide is the first pump specifically designed to create gyre flow

I may have to try one out. I don't care for the clearness, but I like it other than that.

I'd be curious to see how much noise and heat these things produce. Neat concept though.

The cool thing is the motor is directly connected to the impellers. Should be less heat than our conventional pumps, but we'll see what happens when they're put in tanks. I wish they looked a little sleeker.

I am worried about them being clear. That will definitely increase algae growth inside the housing

I am also interested in this. They have a poll on their Facebook page for colors. Everyone is voting black it seems. The clear does stick out like a sore thumb. I will be ordering one as soon as they are available.

I wonder about the noise. I've read a few threads where several people said it was a bit noisy. Can anyone confirm? I read they were also shutting down when going reverse? I'm not sure what that means so if anyone gets one please explain. I'm interested in the smaller one but read they won't come out until December.

At 60 pct in pulse mode it sounds like a cell phone vibrating. At 30 pct it's almost undetectable. Seems most run at 30 to 40.

It's considerably lower than my mp40s from a volume standpoint, but the sound seems more irritating than an mp (at least to my family) at 60. I just dropped it to 40. I'll see what they say tonight.
