Risky Live Rock

So I have this crazy orphan tank upgrade project thing going on right now. Money is retarded tight so this couldn't happen at a worse time. Then again its an amazing oppertunty.

So my question is, how risky is it to use live rock which has been left out in someones back yard for a while to a long time?
I mean could you just rinse it well and put it in the tank, eventually it will become live right?
Are there any risk or reasons one should not do something like this and maybe consider q.ting the rock for a while?

it would be base rock. for baes results you should mix in some live rock and yes in time it will become live rock once again.

throw a piece of live rock or some live sand in there and you should be fine


a local does this with his tank every 6 months he changes out his rock if he finds bubble algea in his tank after buying some corals with it on it

Ya, I guess it was premium Fiji at one point. He broke down the tank an just threw it in the backyard somewhere. I guess its all solid good looking rock. Of course its all white and dead now. And its free.
