Thank you Sahin. I don't think I've had them very long since the damage just started showing up. I suspect I got them from a maricultured millepora. I was a long time Coral Rx user but since getting red bugs in my tank I switched to Bayer. I never noticed AEFW in any of my dip water so I must have transferred eggs into the tank. I did not have a QT in place but I recently set up a 40 breeder solely for this purpose. There are plans in the near future for a living room remodel and large tank upgrade. I already have several frags of my pieces dipped and in QT so in case of any big losses I have backups. I've always had a dedicated QT for fish so from now on I will have another full set up for corals also. My tank will be 5 in May so once I reach that goal I'll start thinking about breaking it down and working on QT'ing corals for the upgrade. The wife wants new floor when I move my tank so I'm in no rush to move the tank.

I'm lucky I didn't have AEFW until now. This tank was set up in my first year of reef keeping and I didn't dip anything until I learned I was supposed to from reading the forums. I've become very strict on dipping the last few years but just goes to show you that something can always find it's way in without strict QT. I'm going to keep this tank rolling for now and will keep it updated and post pics.

Well my 2 large milleporas are taking a beating from the aefw. I'll be removing them this week to attempt to save most of the colony.

What do you all think? Break it up and dip the frags or dip the whole colony? I'm thinking break up the colony into frags so no eggs are transferred from the rocks.


I grew this thing from a 1/4" nub. I'm almost tempted to save a frag or 2 and bleach the skeleton for show. Lol

This large chunk looks savable.


I dipped the large chunks and several 2-3 inch frags in Bayer.

Look at all those flatworms!

I've been basting my corals to blow the aefw off and my fish have been eating them. The millis rarely have any blown off of them but are the most damaged. After dipping you can see that basting doesn't work for millis at least. The other smoother acros that are effected are regaining color and PE from basting alone.

Remount after the dip. No signs of eggs and I didn't transfer any dead skeleton or rock to the dip. I put the base rock outside to dry completely.

I'm going to tackle my Copps Hulk milli another day. It's not as bad as the ORA blue but much more difficult to remove.

The rest of the Acros look great including my bonsai which is a known AEFW favorite.

Don't forget you have some growing in my tank as a back-up. Couldn't replace a colony, but you'll always have some to restart if needed.

Nasty buggers! I'm going to dip another smoother Acro today to see how many come off of it. If there aren't as many as the milli I may leave the unaffected acros in place and baste. I also have a large melanarus wrasse in my qt that I'm going to add to the display. I need to do some rescaping and remodeling to get his den in the tank. I have a rock sculpture that holds sand for him to sleep in. Maybe he will help out keeping the FW numbers under control. I know it's a long shot but I really like the wrasse anyway so even if he doesn't help with the AEFW I'll at least have a new cool fish.

Thanks. It's a maricultured war coral. The colors and growth are outstanding under my LEDs. One of my favorites for sure. It's about to start growing up the side glass on the left.

I broke off another large colony today. I don't know the name but it's similar to a pearlberry acro.

The color had browned quite a bit and I could see signs of bite marks.

Only a few aefw came off this colony. Maybe a half dozen total.

Compared to the milli this was almost nothing. This is one of the acros that started to regain color from basting. This gives me some hope for leaving some acros in the tank.
