Hi all,
I’m new to the forum scene so hello! I’m just looking for some general advice from those who successfully keep Ritteri’s as to lighting acclimatisation.
I have AI SOL’s in my mixed reef tank (softies, LPS and SPS). I added a Ritteri 2 weeks ago, which is in good health (A bit bleached) however I have experienced from experimentation of lighting that he does not like it too bright and deflates when I started to ramp up. My SOLs are only running W:25% B:34% RB:34% currently which he is happy with and remains inflated. He is close to the water surface.
I noticed originally when I ramped up to 50% which my Reef usually runs at, the Ritteri fully deflated so I reduced it back to less and he has been fully inflated and happy ever since. The seller (LFS) was using 25% on luminaries. I started to ramp up 1% per every 2 days and at reaching 37%, then nem deflated and expelled zoo’s. It reaches for light in the morning, but settles lower when at full brightness in the day. I am convinced the deflation is due to excess lighting from my monitoring of behaviour.
What are your thoughts, ramp up slower? What did you guys do?
I know a lot of people say Ritteri’s move if they don’t like the light but in my experience so far, he moved for better flow but excessive light causes deflation, not movement.
I have been documenting my Ritteri journey so far (2 weeks in) with some finding and learning which I will share if this proves to be a successful attempt.
