Ok so the last tank I had I kept the temp probe and heater in my display tank.
In my new tank I want to put the heater in my sump tank and I was told I need to keep my temp probe in the same location as the heater. Is this true?
I want my dispay to be 79 degrees exact

I would put the probe in the dt if that is what you want. I see no reason why it would hurt. Also allows you to make adjustments based on the temp in the dt where the critters will be.

Thats what I thought. Plus I can have the lights shut off if temp gets too hot. Didnt really understand why I needed the heater and probe in same spot

have my heater section before return in the sump. i have my temp prob on the other side of the tank from my return if any of that made sense

But if I separate the heater and probe and my return stops working for some reason the dt will drop and cause my sump to get too hot. And as im writing this I remember that I can rely on the heaters thermostat to keep that from happening if I keep it set a few degrees hotter than it will normally be running

Yes not many people use a heater in a display some do but a lot don't. Your heater will cut off if set right.

Its really amazing how when you have a question and you type it out and you realize you answer yourself

Ok so I have a update to my question. I am selling my rkl and buying a rke with 2 temp probes... one in sump with heater and one in tank???
