Hello all! quick question...

I'd like to install a direct water line from my ro/di unit to my top-off container next to my aquarium. The total linear footage is approximately 150'. Any thoughts on whether stagnation in the water line will be a problem? Or bacteria growing?

I have some experience with large ro/di systems, and the water is typically circulated to prevent these issues so I figured I would check and see if anyone has run into this before.

Thanks!!

Eventually yes. Any water line without some sort of disinfecting will eventually foul.

Now will it foul in a way to negatively impact your tank? That is an unknown I would imagine it would depend on what the fouling consists of, and how it eventually breaks down.

Keeping it dark and filled should buy you a decent amount of time before you even really need to think about it.

A once a year cleaning of the line I would imagine to be more than sufficient for our uses.

Depending on how much diy you want to do you should be able to add a wye and a check valve near the rodi unit so that when it was done running it would allow the water in the line to drain into the reservoir (assuming the rodi unit is at a higher elevation).
Also, I keep a 3/8 vinyl line going through my ceiling for about 50' that stays at a constant siphon without any issues.

I have a 10 gallon top-off container and probably use about 1/2 a gallon a day. I use a 100 gallon per day filter system. My filter is located below the top-off container so unfortunately draining back into the container won't work.

I'm probably overthinking the scenario, especially since some water will be running through the piping each day. I just wasn't sure if anyone had an issue with something like this proposed install. I didn't want to pipe it all in and find out afterwards that it is a bad idea.

I appreciate the feedback all!
