BRS currently has 3 different brands of 1 micron carbon blocks for sale:
  1. BRS brand: $18.99
  2. CTO: $14.99
  3. ChloraGuard: $20.99
Does anyone know enough about RO/DO to explain the difference? I'm not trying to save a few bucks, but I don't just blindly trust that the most expensive one is the best.

Also, the CTO page recommends a 5-micron and then a 1-micron rather than 2x1 micron in 5-stage systems, but the BRS refill kit includes 2x1 micron. The CTO recommendation seems logical, but perhaps that's naive. The BRS kit also has a 1-micro sediment filter for before the carbon blocks, so perhaps that's a factor.

I suppose I generally trust BRS, but I was surprised to see their brand wasn't the cheapest on their own website, as seems to usually be the case. I wonder if they know we all trust them and are capatilizing on that. (Not that they're not entitled to, but I'll do a bit of reading to learn and save a few bucks.)

Do you have chloramine? If you do you want the BRS block. If not you probably want the BRS block anyway...

Looking at the specs you can compare the BRS to the Chloragard as both say about the same capacity to remove chloramines. The other does not list chloramine capacity. I would plan for chlormines if your public utilitity is not using them today they might tomorrow .
