RO/DI ebay

I have the filter direct unit off ebay with the storage tank. Works great, i've had it a little over 2 years and only had to replace the DI resin once. The DI chamber is the only downfall to these units, the smaller chamber and horizontal mounting isn't the best way to do it. But it works well and has a good price tag. The TDS out of my faucet is 23ppm.

Randy - if you are set on the auction website approach, choose a unit with a pressure gauge; a full-size, refillable vertical DI stage; and no GAC after the DI.

TDS straight outta my tap is ~13.
Can I get away with just getting an RO not Ro/Di? and will it be just as clean if I use just RO? Thanks

Yes, you could. With a 98% rejection membrane (e.g., Filmtec 50 gpd or 75 gpd, or Buckeye 150 gpd membrane), your RO output would be less than 1 ppm.

If you used DI resin it would last a long time.

I believe there are 3 basic types of reefers;
- those who collect NSW from the ocean (lucky them!)
- those who will eventually get an RO/DI (or get out of the hobby)
- those who have already bought an RO/DI (and will need replacement filters)

I bought a Water General unit (two actually, one for the tank one for the kitchen/drinking water) with clear canisters off ebay. I love em. Zero TDS results for like $150. That said, I'm headed to Buckeye's site for replacement DI resin.

We've been watching the board for a couple of weeks and thinking about this - but there doesn't seem to be much discussion re the RODI issue. Are all of you using RODIs?

Sorry for the hijack...

ABSOLUTELY!!! most reefers, and pretty much ALL succesful reefers have RO/DI systems.

the only succesful ones that dont use an RO/DI, have a pretty darn good (and convenient) source of RO/DI water at a lab or store nearby.

in fact, there are RO/DI stores on the web that pretty much serve the reefing community as their primary source of business.

Randy - I encourage you not to fall into the "more stages is better" trap. Some MUST have's:
small pore poly sediment filter
small pore, high capacity (specified) carbon block
pressure gauge
brand name membrane
vertical, refillable DI stage

Other things you will want:
tds meter
clear housings
thermometer
a catalytic GAC stage if you have chloramines

and last but certainly not least,

customer support.

Russ at Buckeye is awesome...he posts on atlantareefclub.com occasionally with some great bits of information.

He would be a great sponsor since he seems to care.
