Here by the beach, there really aren't any homes build with a basement. My house sits on a concrete slab so the plumbing runs through the attic. Obviously, in the summer that means even the cold water lines run very warm at first. Usually around 95-110 degrees for the first 10 or so seconds.

Will this have an adverse effect on the water coming into my RO/DI unit?

Curious to see what you all think.

Ideal temps for the membranes are 77 degrees. I think you run the risk of melting parts of he inside if its above 110-115. I'd let it flush out if possible before running it through the system.

Thanks hijinks, that's what I've read as well. Problem is that I'm not home as much as I'd like to be during the summer. I won't be able to let it run automatically.

Replace the flush valve with a 115v solenoid ($15) and connect it to a plug in timer ($5)

Will that then run the water long enough to clear the hot water out of the line before it starts making water?

I would add a tee with a couple valves to bleed off the first minute or two of incoming water, and do it manually.

I thought I might have to do it manually. I was hoping someone would have a great idea to keep it from coming to that. After actually putting a thermometer to it yesterday, my results are:

84 degrees yesterday. With 2 vent fans running in the attic temp there was 115 resulting in 111 degree water in kitchen faucet. Hot water ran for 12 seconds until it was cool. Granted, my RO unit is in the garage which has much less line to travel. None the less, unless someone has a brilliant idea (which wouldn't surprise me here), manual it is.

Thanks all.
