Hey all,
Just wanted to give a quick update on my RO/DI "project".

I used tap water to start up my 25 gallon AIO cube. Ran it for about 6 months with tap water for WC and every other day I had to scrape a decent algae covering off my glass and rocks/sand every 2 days or the algae would overtake the tank. I tried getting phos removal chemicals and prime dechlorinators, chemipure and chemipure elite....nothing worked.

I installed my own RO/DI unit (RO buddie with DI filter-100 gal/day). Within a week I saw a MASSIVE difference.
1) I dont have algae issues anymore.
2) I havent had to scrape the tank walls since I did a (single) 5 gal WC with RO/DI.
3) I have abandonded my knife scraper and scrubber pad and now just use a nano mag cleaner (one that uses the velcro stuff). Even then, I only do a quick once-over when I do a WC.
4) My water is also clearer.

I have been doing WC with RODI for 8 weeks and its been a breeze.

If anyone is thinking about maybe getting an RO system: DO IT. I promise it will save you time and headaches.

Plus, I use it for drinking water too :D LOL It tastes so much better than tap water

Great post!

Thanks, I wish I would have figured it out sooner! Save me from spending hours scraping haha
I honestly thought it was "all hype" about the RODI....its like night and day transformation.

I don't believe that you are supposed to drink water that has passed through the resin. R/O, yes.

The only reasons to not drink RO/DI is it has a very bland blah taste and it is expensive to make. You could not possibly drink enough to do yourself harm.

LOL you would think its the best water out there....having removed all the yuck from it ;)
it tastes leaps and bounds better than my tap.

RO only has a great, refreshing taste since it still contains small amounts of minerals. RO/DI has been stripped of everything and basically has no taste so isn't refreshing to the palate.
