I am upgrading my 75g freshwater planted to 150g; I'm also setting up a new 180g saltwater build. I use RO/DI water; adding minerals back in. It's a 200g per day unit. My current process for the 75g involved lugging 7g containers of water around. This just isn't feasible for the larger tanks. So I purchased a Norwesco 100g vertical storage tank from my local Agri-Supply. I'd like to keep it outside. I've ordered two "blackout" tarps from Tarp & Cover Superstore. I live in Virginia. I'm looking for opinions on the algae risk of keeping the water outside. The tarps are advertised as high quality blackout tarps. I was hoping that using both tarps to cover the tank would sufficiently block out light would prevent algae. Being in Richmond, Virginia I don't think the winters will be much of an issue.

I will use Brute trash cans to heat and mix water before doing the water changes. I can roll them close enough to pump the water into either tank.

Shoot away.

I agree. But I didn't plan the spacing in the garage well.
