I was looking at a gitting an ro/di system for top offs and water changes but i have so save up for one and i have a local water treatment store that sells water for $1 for 5 gal and i know he runs it through some kind of filter system and i was wondering if that would be better then using regular tap water untill i can get my own swstem

yes get it ,,1 dollar is pretty good price too,ask him if the tds is zero

What dose TSS stand for and any subjestions on a ro unit that is really expensive but still works good

TDS stands for total dissolved solids, all the minerals and contaminants that are dissolved in tap water. TSS stands for total suspended solids, all the silt, sediment, particulates and colloidal materials that are suspended but not dissoolved in the water.
RO membranes and DI resins remove TDS. Sediment pre filters and to a small extent carbon blocks remove the TSS so you need both to be high quality for the system as a whole to work well.
You can get an excellent reef quality system here for $125 at the top of the page, the only thing I suggest adding is a handheld TDS meter so you can monitor the systems condition for another $20-$25:
SpectraPure Water Purification Products
Other good choices I have had personal experience with are www.buckeyefieldsupply.com or www.purelyh2o.com .
