Hi, I was wondering where I could buy ro/di water. Please do not try to convince me to buy a ro/di system. I've been looking at sparklets and I was wondering which kind of water would qualify as ro water. (distilled or crystal fresh). Also, can you use distilled water in salt water tanks? (sorry if this is a stupid question.) Thanks in advance.

I've used distilled before but only for emergency top off. Depending where you are your LFS or sometime craigslist.

Depending on your location the local Walmart store might have RODI water that you could buy. In my area it's a Butera grocery store that used to have RO water

If you don't want to purchase a RO/DI then buy distilled water from somewhere like WalMart or a delivery service. Another option is RO/DI from a LFS or friend who has a RO/DI unit. You will find it will be much more expensive than owning a RO/DI though and you lose control of the water quality like you have with your own unit. If you buy water, make sure you have a good $25 ATC handheld TDS meter so you can confirm its quality before you buy or use it. I don't like depending on someone else when it comes to water, which is the largest and most important piece of a reef system and everything depends on its quality and its stability. I always suggest any reefer buy a RO/DI system for abot $125-$130 before he even buys a tank so you are not tempted to fill it with tap water and regret it ever after.

I am curious why you don't want to buy a RODI. I'm not going to try to convince you (maybe) but am generally curious. It's the best investment I've made. So economical.

Food Lion (If you have one close by) has RO water for .60 cents per gallon right now. It says Spring Water on the bottle when you read the back of the label it says purified using Reverse Osmosis.

RODI systems are pretty economical. Water at nearly a buck a gallon adds up fast. Also there is the big pain of going out and lugging water back home on a regular basis. An RODI system with a brute trash can for storage pays itself back fast.

I got mine at my lfs at first they had a monthly price all the water you wanted. But i switched to having my own rodi system as it pays for it self in no time. Plus always having the ability to make what you need helps. Check your local fish store or local hobiest. I am thinking of listing it on craiglist my self at 0.50 a gallon to make some cash for more corals

I just started my aquarium and am just not ready to put the money into a RODI system myself. I got 20 gallons of water today that I am thinking will last a while and paying just $12 was easy on my budget.

I have a 2.5-3 hour drive to the closest fish store but I am sure once my tank is really up and running I will purchase a RODI system.

You can get a brand new RODI off AMAZON for $140. If you plan on staying in the hobby and want an amazing tank. Invest. Otherwise just go to a local saltwater store but I'm telling you it won't be pure.
