Hi, I’m fairly new to this hobby and have heard about deionised and reverse osmosis water. This might sound silly but is the deionised water used in saltwater aquariums the same as the DI water used in cars/ battery mechanics and all that?

Although I am unsure of the use in mechanics, DI water will be DI water, so 0ppm TDS.

Thank u :))

People use rodi water because it’ll have no impurities or other minerals u wouldn’t want in your tank that could cause unwanted algae growth or other issues . I guess it’s about the same as a battery using DI water because those impurities can degrade battery performance.

many processes outside of our hobbie use deionized water for cleaning parts without leaving residue. optics being one of them.
