Hello everyone! I have been reading a lot on this subject, and feel the need to buy an Ro-DI system asap, but I'm wondering why aquarium on paper mill didn't tell me all this stuff from the getgo if it can be such a danger to your corals. Is ro-di just a myth or is something real that i need to be concerned about.
For water changes I add 4-8 gallons of fresh tap water every week or so; and then every second week i do the same thing, but take out 4-8 gallons and replenish with salty tap water :>
mt tank is 55g, and i believe i have a 20g sump

Thanks -Josh

No, RODI is not a myth. If you're adding that much tap water, I'm surprised you aren't having health problems with your livestock and algae problems as well.

In layman's terms, RODI is pure water, without all the extra stuff in it that makes tap water drinkable but can be harmful to tank inhabitants.

As for why Aquarium didn't tell you, I don't know. Maybe they wanted you to come buy water from them. Maybe they didn't think about it. Who knows?

The Aquarium water is RO water. While its most certainly much better to use RODI, I did just fine with RO water for all these years with no issues. In fact until late last year, I got all my water from the Aquarium. I would never EVER use straight tap water in my tank.

Thankyou very much for the input! we have an RO filter at my home; so ill start using that until I buy my rodi system. Thanks so much everyone!

I have used both in the past. I have never had a issue with tap water. in my 10g i used distilled water from Walmart or the grocery store. it also depends on the quality of the tap water your getting. I haven't looked at what is in the local water supply but that information will be readily available at kub.
