It's that time again, that lovely time the tds has risen after the membrane telling me it needs new filters. I had been using BRS for that, but they are out of stock on some of the items. That took me down a google rabbit hole searching for an alternate supplier.

Where are you all getting replacement carbon block filters, membranes and sediment filters? Do you buy them as needed? Or do you bulk buy and keep some on-hand?

For me I usually get my Carbon and sediment filters from BRS and my membranes from Spectrapure

I typically buy at least 3 sets and when I put in the last one I buy at least another 3. Sometimes depending on other expenses I buy more or less.

I use spectrapure and BRS, the only thing I do always get from spectrapure is the RO membrane.

I will use BRS or other carbon blocks, but for membrane and DI cartridges spectrapure, may cost more but seem to last longer.
That has been my biggest issue, i think the dow membranes should be lasting much longer than they do. Mine is putting out 15ppm from 52ppm source water. But reading up on them i think it is because i need to change our my carbon blocks more often. The filmtec ones are "thin layer technology" and apparently get damaged by chlorine content above something like .1ppm. Maybe time to try a spectrapure.

Once you start getting above 0.1 chlorine you should change your carbon

Totally agree, but when is that? Obviously sooner than what i have been doing.
I was hoping to find like a 5 pack or something to have them on hand.
If you pickup new filters from spectrapure they also sell chlorine test kit.

Or you can find some cheap strips on Amazon or something.

@flyfisher2 how did you like the spectrapure test kit?

Did you ever pick up anything else for testing chlorine?

I'm using the Salifert test for Chlorine. So far so good. I still haven't changed any cartridges. The Chlorine is at zero and my membrane is rejecting at 5 TDS pre DI resin. I'm actually just thinking of replacing the pre filters and carbon filters based solely on the fact that it's been 6 months?

I bought a bunch from Marine Depot closeout sale. I'm sitting on a bin full. Honestly I'm seeing that they don't deplete as rapidly as I thought IF everything in line is working as it should.

Prices are usually even a little better than BRS.
I was just there and picked up a new sediment filter. I know he had different carbon, chlorine, and chloramine options there as well.

I buy di resin bulk and refill the cartridge when it changes colour.

Sediment and carbon I buy from the local coral shop .
seams to be the cheapest.

The last membrane I bought was from a lfs . But thinking of contacting spectipure .
I’m also looking for the small plastic fittings for the blue and yellow line to plug into .
mine are starting to leak

Thank you all, I went the spectra pure .5 micron route with a new 99% membrane and hi cap DI.
question. How often are you testing for chlorine post stage 1 carbon?

I use a test strip everytime I make water. Once I think the test strip has changed color I use a test kit and get an actual value.
