I need to replace the membrane in my old Coralife RO unit and after comparing prices on Marine depot, Amazon, and BRS I'm seeing a wide range of prices for similar 75 gal, 100gal and 150 gal filters across the different websites. Does anyone know why there's such a cost difference? Additionally, which brand consistently performs well? This is one of those things I'm willing pay the extra $20 for but I would like to know if it makes a justifiable difference.

I can't comment on price difference, but you can't go wrong with a Dow Filmtec membrane. I still have my original Dow membrane from 2007. Spectapure is also a great brand, but typically cost more than all others. I'd stay away from no-name brands.

Make sure to use a membrane that uses DOW TFC material.
DOW's Filmtec RO membrane uses the TFC material. The TFC (thin film composite) has the best rejection of any membrane on the market.
AquaFX Uses that same DOW TFC material, and all AquaFX RO membranes are made in the USA.

Admin please remove some of those posts hahahahah - im not sure why my computer freaked out and triple posted :(

There’s more then just a few ro/di videos from BRS that I learned a lot from. Ended up going with them mainly because they have so many videos on how to upgrade they’re units and they use the membranes by Dow

Suggest you stick with genuine DOW Filmtec for membranes up to 100 gpd.

Membranes that are made using Filmtec TFC material are good, but definitely not as good as if the entire thing was made by Filmtec. Membrane production is automated at Filmtec. What you get therefore is membranes with very minimal variability - very high quality. There's a major manufacturer in the USA for instance that uses Filmtec stock, but actually constructs and rolls their membranes by hand. This introduces opportunity for variability and lessened quality.
