RO protein skimmer missing piece?

I was testing my reef octopus bh 100 and i notice that something is missing in the pump intake? I bought it used so no idea whats missing till now.


When you buy it new does it come with this?: http://www.coralvue.com/reef-octopus-classic-100-venturi-intake-basket
or it can run without it? in case i need it, can i just go to lowes or home depot and pick up some pvc at make it?

You do not need the Surface Skimmer part, but you do need the venture which is the part where the air hose connects.
