I'm in the process of doing some major upgrades to my RO system in preperation of setting up a mixing station.

Upgrades include:
DI resin
Booster pump
Membrane flush kit

Now the question, im debating the BRS 150gpd upgrade to reduce my waste. Im already at 100gpd so the upgrade would technically make me at 175gpd. BRS says its do-able. I'mm curious if its worth it? Does it really cut down on waste? Whats your experiences?

Thanks in advance.

I did this upgrade about 6 months ago. It is totally worth it. Cuts the waste water down to about a 1:1 ratio. I'm from California and up until recently, we were experiencing a bad drought. I still run my waste water line to a water hose and use it in my garden, or for car washes, etc...

Flush kit is not worth it if you are talking about "cleaning the membrane". If by flush kit you are talking about bypassing the DI unit for the first minute or 2 the RO is first turned on to get rid of TDS creep, then that is a good thing to do. Hopefully AZDesertRat will answer your question on the dual membranes. I was thinking he once posted a long answering explaining why he didn't think they were worth it.

Measure the TDS of your waste water. If it's pretty high then dual membrane will turn expensive real quick. Reason being is that in this type of setup the second membrane takes in all the waste water of the first membrane and runs it through so it's going to kill it much faster. You also need high pressure or efficiency goes down real quick.

Yesir we are on the same page.

Thanks for the info. That's an easy test that I didn't think of. I know I'm sub 120 tap water, like 117 or 118.

I currently have 70 psi pre membrane.

K so your waste will be in the 200 range. That's not bad. IMO a booster pump is the single best upgrade you can do to an rodi. My tap TDS is ~520 so I would be replacing my second membrane insanely quickly. I was pushing 60psi though the tap and adding the booster and going to 90psi cut my production time in half. I went from making 5 gals of water in 2 hours to 1 hour.

For the 150 upgrade just make sure both membranes are the same. Have two 75gpd or 36gpd so they match the flow restrictor. It's a great upgrade. Check valve won't hurt
