Hi all,

We use the RO for family drinking in the kitchen. So I made a T joint and passed a pipe to my water reservoir. Now my issue is that in order to fill my reservoir I need to close my 8L RO reserve tank and open the valve leading to my reservoir. This works well BUT it obviously doesnt allow anyone to drink water as the valve is closed. Is there a way to re pipe my RO to allow family to drink and allow me to fill up my station with water (passing through the DI station and leaving normal RO water for family to drink)

Current setup

I would think that the filtration usually recommended for your tank wouldn't be the same as used from drinking water. If I used my RoDi setup every time someone wanted a drink, I would be blowing through DI resin way too fast. What TDS comes out of that system?

I dont have a DI so far and will do that when tank arrives so will bypass it so it wont be used for drinking water. Trying to see how I can fill up reservoir and still use tap to drink for

Does the system you have now have a flush valve? I know with mine I flush it for 5 minutes before use or so. TDS can get in the mid 200s when flushing it out, then down under 10 before I start making the water. This saves on filters a ton. Without one it will be much cheaper in the long run to get a dedicated system. That being said, wouldn't a simple "T" work in the line coming out with a valve on it? Just flip the valve when making tank water and back when done?

If I leave the valve open towards the reservoir and the the 8L under sink tank with gravity It empties the 8L tank also so need to see how to open the valve to the reservoir and not empty the under tank

You need to check that the drinking water is zero tds, as drinking water is not meant to be zero tds as it’s to pure for the body, so unlikely you can use your drinking water for the tank unless you treat it further.

Yes was going to add a di filter before my reservoir so it wont interfere with the drinking water

Here is a diagram of something I built for myself very recently - works very well for both drinking and RODI water.

Follow the line from your RO enclosure put a T there. One side goes to your DI cartridges and the other goes via check valve to your tank. Check valve is your answer here, this way your 8 gallon tank will not drain back to the DI canisters.

Ignore the fluff below but this should give you an idea.

Here is a dumbed down version that explains what you're trying to accomplish.

So all I need is a check valve from what I understood? So my T is wrong?

You need a T after your RO membrane and before the pressure tank. So water enters the T, goes through a check valve to your pressure tank/RO faucet and the other side of T goes to your DI canister. So essentially you need to split the water from the RO membrane into 2 systems: drinking and DI.

Forgive my ignorance but should anything be modified here?

Or should it be done before? I had a guy install the RO many years ago and not sure which is which

Just add a remineralizer cartridge on the end on the side for your drinking water. Your family's gut health will thank you. Near zero tds water will be acidic in nature and can lead to leaching calcium from your bodys

This is why I have decided to buy a separate RODI unit and leave my RO drinking water set up alone. The mechanics behind all of this just makes my head spin.
