I have extremely hard water where I live. So I'm looking to buy a RO system to clean up my water some. What's a good system that won't break the bank? I need it for freshwater and saltwater.....

The baseline 90 gallon per day SpectraPure is a great deal if you go for the refurbished model.

Besides being really hard, what else can you tell us about your water?
Water Source?, Typical Temp?, Water Pressure?, do you know if there is any chlorine or chloramines in your water?
All of this can be a factor when looking at what you really need for a RO/DI system. While a quality baseline system is a good starting point knowing if you are going to need to supplement the supply pressure or may need extra filtering for one thing or another will help prevent buyers remorse and save you money in the long run.

Marine depot and BRS both have an entry level system that's pretty good there both around 140-150. Almost all Ro membranes are Dow and that's were the magic happens. The higher prices units usually won't make your water any more pure, they just come with more options like back flush and maybe a booster pump, tds Meter or a pressure gauge

I would not go with a $150.00 unit from Marine depot or BRS they are too entry level and long term you will not be happy.
I recommend going with SpectraPure, but I would hold off making any purchase until you know more about the water.
Depending on the state of your source water you are going to want certain things and not need others.

For example if your pressure is constant and 50 PSI or higher then you are good, if not then the first upgrade you should consider is a booster pump and the gear that goes along with it. While not cheep it will enhance the performance of your RO/DI system more than anything else, improving rejection ratio, production rates and saving your other filters from un-necessary extra work. Get us some more details and we can help spec out the most cost effective solution for you.
