Ro water safe to drink?

Iv'e heard good & bad over the years. It would be cool to know but don't drink it anyway.

Lol Chemists. So it does apparently depend on how pure it is. Less pure, less of a problem. A small amount of even the most pure is ok but a large amount can supposedly in some cases cuase internal bleeding which isn't really a chemist thing so I think when I see my nurse friend on Tuesday I'll ask her and see what she says.

I suspect she's not going to know either. I wonder if there are any credible studies on the subject, rather than just lay opinions?

I did. Did not find anything that concluded definitively one way or the other ...... The conclusions seem mostly to be 'maybe'. LOL?

On my RO system, when I purchased it it came with a remineralizer cartridge. Every year I buy a new one and replace it. We tried removing it and the water didn’t taste as good, so now I just replace it once a year. We had one of those Zero water units and my wife who has some health issues got worse. The Zero water units removes everything like an RO/DI system. Water would test out at 0 TDS.

My 2 cents: I' a PhD molecular biologist... RODI water will not hurt you. It's safe to drink if the incoming source of water is not microbially contaminated (which a previous reefer already mentioned). It will not leave minerals from your body, or burn a hole in your intestines... It's just water! A health problem MAY occur if it is your primary source of water - it lacks many minerals which your body requires. Granted though, these can be sourced via your food (sea salt for example). A RODI system also removes floride, which would be my main concern.

I been drinking RO/DI for about 12 years now. But I will say, I pass mine through aragonite gravel as a final stage. I use the same water in my reef also. I’m sure it’s OK, think about the drugs, hormones and other contaminates in city water. They only filter to remove particulates and add a disinfectant. I’m sure they can’t afford to purify water as well as we do in our homes.
