ro water stank

hey guys i use a 32gal brute to hold my ro water. well i noticed my air pump crapped out that was running the air stone. i havent touched anything in a few weeks so im gonna assume its been down that long. i went to get some water out of there today to fill my ro auto topoff container and it had a faint smell of something like cat pee. now i have 2 cats so maybe it was in my head. i filled the topoff jug after convincing myself it was in my head. there wasnt much left in the brute so i dumped it and rinsed it out with hot water and a wash cloth. i got it refilling now and i got a different air pump and a bigger air stone i had laying around.

so did i do a bad thing by putting some in my ato tank? im thinking if there was any bacteria in it the saltwater in the tank would kill it? my topoff comes on at 5 am and 5pm so i got time to fix it if need be. im doing a waterchange now but the waters taking forever to warm up. its freezing in the cellar where i keep the water. its ususlly by the woodstove nice and warm but i ran outta wood this year.

I just hope that this water was not contaminated. If It had a smell to It I would have not used It.

I agree. There's no telling what is really causing the smell and what it might do to the tank.

ok i just added a few gallons to the ato tank. i got more ro water being made now. ill just unplug the ato and dump the tank tomorrow and refill it with fresh water just to be safe. i dont see how it could be contaminated. i keep the cover on the brute at all times. would it not being circulated cause it to get smelly?

i also have 2 5 gallon home depot buckets i store and mix the water im actually using in the take. i transfer it from the brute to those.
