So i was going to go by a brute can from lowes tomorrow to start producing water but I've been reading a lot online and seeing that people are saying that the brutes leach phosphates into the water even the "food grade" ones.

Has anyone had any experience with this and what do you use for water storage I really don't want to spend 100$ on water storage

IMO, not worth the worry. This question is one of those without some debate...

Don't believe everything you read on the internet (maybe including what I'm about to say!). Brute cans are just fine for RO/DI or saltwater storage. Just make sure you give them a cleaning with a soapy solution and and good rinse and you'll be fine. Don't believe all that phosphate nonsense you're finding, and even the implied nonsense from Borneman in the study he did. Again, Brutes are just fine for our use of water storage.

RHF has 5 or 6 in use on his system. I have 2 regular roughneck bins on my system. Don't sweat it.

I also should have noted that I've been using brutes as my main source of water for 2 years now. I just checked my p04 last week, .003 ppm. And I bought them used from a different reef setup...

If you wash them, a grey Brute will be fine.

As mentioned above, I use tons of them, 2 for sumps, 3 for refugia, 3 for limewater, 2 for RO/DI, and two for new salt water. :)

if there is any leached phosphate, it is totally insignificant compared to the amount you feed in foods every day.
