I was looking at bulk reef supply for a ro system for my whole family and all the tanks including my saltwater setup and I keep seeing ro water treatment chemicals that are to be put into the ro water. Do I need the treatment chemicals for my salt water tank or is it mostly for freshwater aquariums? We have 5 freshwater tanks along with my 35 gallon marine.

If you are talking about something like RO Right by Kent, no you do not need this your your salt water tank.

depends on your fish. If your fish can tolerate a ph of around 4 yeah you can use straight ro with fresh. most people use 50/50 ro/straight unless your water is chlorinated. if you have discus im not even getting ino the water for them. there are better fresh water forums to talk about specific fish if you have a rare breed.

Ok so as far as my marine tank goes I'm fine I can just add the water with the salt mix and be done with it.

Yes, get a TDS meter and if you are getting 0 TDS you are good to go.. Just make sure you get the DI cartage for as well for your Saltwater.

Here is my RODI setup. It's very sloppy but I hope to have a better looking permanent area for it soon.

I added on a dual TDS meter that I bought about a month ago for a project.

I then drilled a hole in the center if it to add a 1/4 adapter to it

Here is is running. Now I'm waiting it's slow since it's only 50gpd which doesn't matter for me since I always make up saltwater in advance.
