RO Water - Who Uses their Setup for Drinking Water?

I have a R/O unit installed under my sink for drinking water. Knoxville has TONS of crap in their water and with my recent bout with cancer, I have changed a lot of things including drinking water that has been filtered :P

Nice, I always laugh when I think that if there was ever an apocalypse, you could always find a reefer with clean water :)

I even drink the R/O water in my classroom too, several students prefer it also!

I use mine for drinking water, I have 2, 5 gallon jugs that I fill and then I have a 1.5 gallon water dispensing jug that fits nicely in the fridge.

Nice, I'd do that same thing if I didn't have a big carbon cartridge on my fridge. You can tell a big difference between the water from it and the tap.

Since we bought a unit, another chore has been added to my list, keeping my wife's water container in the fridge full  And if I give her water from the tap, she can tell the difference!!

Haha, but you have to look at the positive side...it gives you an excuse to keep your RO filters super new and clean. It'll benefit her, and benefit your tank :)

I've used mine for RO drinking water since 1990 or so. The best way to do this is with a DI bypass so you can use a pressure tank and faucet for RO drinking water and bypass the pressure tank for RO/DI. This way the TDS creep inherent with pressure tanks is not an issue for the DI resin.

Since it removes all the TDS or minerals it gives the wate ra very blah, bland taste, not refreshing at all. Some will argue its harmful but thats really not an issue since we receive such a miniscule amount of our minerals from liquids. You would drown internally or waterlog your cells before you could possibly drink enough RO/DI to cause harm, eating even one potato chip provides everything the DI removed and we all know you cannot live on water alone.

It strips so much out of the water that the water actually pulls from our body's to make up for it, or at least that is my understanding.

That has never been proven. Many like the WHO have tried but since we cannot survive on water alone so the studies are inconclusive. You get your minerals from a balanced diet not from water.

Cool thanks guy. I had heard that it makes it taste bad, but wasn't sure exactly why.

liek said above just get the di bypass and a pressure/holding tank works great im plannign on putting one on my new unit i just got

you are correct...There is no problem in drinking RO/Di water once or twice the real problem would be consuming it long term... in our bodies the water is dived in compartments intra/extra cellular & blood anyways since water can freely cross our cells membrane what drives it is the osmotic pressure and so chronic drinking can actually deplete our cells from nutrients and over time (we are talking years) you can develop or become more susceptible to certain nutrient deficiencies!

I've been planning to tee into my unit for drinking water but never have yet,we have a carbon filter on the fridge that filters out the chlorine,I use it in my coffee,I don't drink much water so that's good enough for me LOL
