Right now I get my water from my LFS. The pump I have for my drinking water is an RO unit. Would I just be able to use that as my source of RO or no?

You should use a di stage for water for the aquarium but otherwise it’s probably fine to use. I agree with above to get a cheap tds meter and see what the tds of the water coming out of the membrane is.

RO will remove 95%+ of the contaminates in your water, depending on your source that ~5% that doesn't get caught by the RO may not make any meaningful difference. Just depends on the makeup of your source.

You can use straight RO, but it would still be advised to get at least a single stage of DI plumbed in for the tank as @Gtinnel pointed out. This way you have the most control over your water.

You could also run an ICP analysis of your RO to better make that judgement call on whether or not you want the DI.

yes that's fine. Just make sure its pure by using a TDS meter.

Why is it fine?

If his water supply uses chloramine, it could be loaded with ammonia.

The reason people use RO/DI and not RO alone is because RO alone is not a guarantee of acceptability. RO/DI is.
