Question, so I’m in process of getting an ATO but obviously everyone has been saying you need to replace with RO. I know nothing about any of this. I know on some forum someone said get a 5 falling bucket full with RO water and connect the ATO to that and when it’s getting low. Connect RO cartridge (where I’m confused) and I can get a faucet adapter. (My tank is next to basement bathroom) and I’ll just have to clean it up and stuff once I’m done…

can someone please help with this

What exactly is the question? Sorry just trying to understand what you're asking
Haha realized there wasn’t a question… so right now I’m trying not too spend too too much. Wishing next few weeks possibly I can get the full RODI system.
What can I use for RO water?
And can I connect that to the faucet and then into the 5 falling bucket to attach the ATO to my sump?

So there's so much information on RODI out there it can be daunting and you've opened the flood gates here perhaps :). The idea is to get as close to 0 tds as possible. I live in an apt so I use an adapter for connecting a dishwasher to your sink from home depot. I keep the RODI unit in a 5 gallon bucket with all my lines coiled nicely inside and pull it out when it's ready to get some water goin. Think it was around 100 bucks on amazon.

For my ATO I just top off a 5 gallon bucket with RODI water every few weeks or so...I don't have anything connected directly...suppose you can tho if you want, quite easily. With enough length you can run it anywhere... If I'm catching you drift?

Caught that drift haha Straight and the point !! Love it!

so there’s a faucet adapter that connects straight to an RODI system and then that goes into the bucket after it goes through the RODI?

yes, fill bucket with ro water. If you can use RODI, all the better but sufficient for ATO use.

This is the unit I got...like $70 now it seems... the threaded white connector above threads onto this (below)

on the bottom and the top screws into your facet after you remove the agitator. They couple together with a ball/spring mechanism...

I will say this. I'm looking for upgrade options at this point. so take that for what it's worth. Perhaps a BRS unit with better filters. I'm referring to the rodi unit itself; the connection bit is how i have to do it for now where I'm living...

So one end of RO system connects to faucet adapter and the other end to a bucket… is that right?

Well I like the idea of larger filters where you can see inside. Plus with this smaller unit the filtration media doesn't last as long (obv), so especially when starting out and doing more water changes it's a factor. I like the idea of being able to visually see the filter inside the clear housing, but I haven't used one yet so I don't know the shortcomings/pluses and minuses vs this one yet to be fair. I do however like the portability of this unit and anything I upgrade to will have to be made moveable...

Yeah so one end on the faucet, one end into a bucket and there's a third end :) for waste water I just let that run into the sink
Okay so you think getting a BRS one k

makes sense for sure! How often would you say you handle the media? I haven’t had time to look into the RODI

For this unit I think they recommend 6-8 months (thanks for the reminder lol), which is pretty reasonable to be fair. In what context are you seeing those numbers? I believe they are rated by GPH of clean water they can produce
