Reverse Osmosis

Welcome to R2R!

When water evaporates from your reef aquarium, the salt is left behind. Salinity will slowly rise over time- so the water evaporated needs replaced with RO water to maintain stable salinity.

This is usually done either manually- or by using an "Auto Top Up" (ATO). Have a look here! :)

Welcome to our little piece of the reef.
So you will here this used alot in reefing. You will here "RO" or "RODI" water.
This means Reverse Osmosis or Reverse Osmosis De-Ionized water. It is super clean, "0" TDS (total dissolved solids) water. RODI water is what you want to use in your tank.

This kind of water is from a water filtration system, and RODI water is what you use to refill your tank thru either filling it up with a cup or something or using and "ATO" (auto top off) system.
Water will evaporate from your tank through out the day, and salt does not. This will cause your salinity to go up.
Adding RODI water will bring your salinity back to where it needs to be.
I hope that helps

Welcome!!!

What’s an Ro chamber in a sump. What’s it stand for?
Welcome to R2R!

It's actually not a chamber, RO stands for reverse osmosis, it's a filtration method for purifying tap water so it's safe for fish, an RO filter is installed outside of the aquarium, after fresh water is made you mix it with salt until its dissolved and the specific gravity reads 1.026, and then add it to your reef tank.
