Bought this rock. Cleaned it over 2-3 days in citric acid. Then washed it off. The rock was a tad soft, from the CA, no doubt.

About 48 hours later my water is cloudy and trident says Alk is out of range (shot way up) and CA is at 615. Whoa!

Did about 25% water change. Then another 10%. Still high.

Has anybody ever heard of a rock that brings your parameters way up?

I wonder if the acid broke down the rock enough that it leached alk/cal into your tank. Kinda like how a calcium reactor works by using low pH to break down dead coral skeleton. I'm not sure if rock will break down like that or not though, unless part of the rock is coral skeleton, which isn't uncommon.
Is it common to use citric acid on rocks, I mostly hear of people using bleech, or muriatic acid sometimes. I personally would have soaked the rock several times when it was done, not just rinsed it off

Hmmm I’ll take it out and soak it meanwhile then. I use CA for everything haha

I'm not sure it would work that way, just kinda thinking out loud, since it would explain the raise in parameters, and as it broke the rock down it could explain why the rock was soft.
