Rock Anemone- Spawning?

Really?! I need to read up on this...I thought it would need a male to fertilize. Only one rock nem in the tank!
You are correct sadly. Time to get more nems! I am a big fan of flower nems and have witnessed 2 live birth events. It is a beulitful sight.

This is amazing!!! And I’m so bummed right now I don’t have another to do their business!
Always a good day to pick up more. I have a whole tank dedicated to them. I call it their boom boom room. No fish or filtration to mess with the “process”;)

My rfa, that I now know is a male [emoji6], spawned and I was so sad there was no female to help him out

I was wondering why she released eggs and not whole nems...but then you mentioned there was no male...so no sperm to fert. them. Now when you

get multiples they will fertilize before hand and the female will release whole perfectly formed perfectly tiny nems!!

That’s crazy cool!! I’ve never seen spawning in our tank besides shrimp. Another rock nem is now on my Black Friday list ; )

Do they have to be right next to each to increase the chances of fertilization?

It will greatly increase the number of offspring. Ive even read where one member will shut down all pumps collect the sperm and put it directly onto a known female. I never had just see these guys pop up...love my nems :)

Isn't that what turkey basters are for? :) Fitting on this day come to think of it.

Baldguy, good line! LOL!

Sonja, you might want to look at this thread:

It covers a lot of info about Rock Flower Anemones. Two days ago I would have told you I've had 2 rounds of baby RFA's... but yesterday I saw 6 new ones (1/16" to 1/8") in the sand along my side glass. Then I started looking around the tank and found at least half a dozen more. They are hard to find in my tank as it's almost wall to wall zoas and the baby RFA's seem to just blend in. But when a colony of zoas are all purple and there is one tiny orange face with green tentacles, I have to assume it's a baby RFA!

You are half way home to having baby RFA's. But unlike you, I've never actually seen mine spawn or spit out the babies. I always find 10 to 15 (maybe more this time) tiny, glowing, fluorescing dots around the tank.

Good luck.
