Hello everyone, I have had this rock anemone for about a month now and in that month he has moved all over the tank and then settled here where he is in the picture. He has been here for about 2 weeks but never fully opens. Any idea why this is? Thank you all in advance.

I have a couple that stay twisted all up and another that seems constantly buried. I figured they stay there like that so they must be happy.

What did it look like when you got it?

Does it have any feeding response?
I've fed it reefroids yesterday and it moved and adjusted. And I've tried feeding it mysis shrimp like I feed the fish and it doesn't really do much. I'll try finding a pic of what it did look like. This is what it looked like the second day of having it

Might be adjusting still. Just make sure your water parameters are good. It could take weeks to a couple months before it's settled.

After moving about 40+ or so earlier this year, they weren't happy and wouldn't accept anything for about a month, some took even longer.

Usually once their settled, there should be a pretty solid feeding response. Like they'll grab on to food and won't let go. If it's currently not accepting, don't force feed it.

Just observe and make sure it's not covered in pests or bleaching.

This goofy one has been in this spot for about 6 months. If it is not all twisted like this it is buried in the sand (my pistol shrimp is irritated by its location and likes to bury it)

I would just keep an eye on it, yours doesnt look bad to me.

@Gavin1274, a couple questions.

How long have you had the RFA in your tank?
How deep is that sand bed it's in?
Is there a rock or anything solid the RFA is attached to that is under the sand?

I know it's kind of a long thread, but there is a lot of good information here if you take the time to read it:

My main suggestion would be to get a small PVC end cap from the hardware store. They're very inexpensive (under $2). Since yours is in the sand bed already, putting it into an end cap and then putting the end cap into the sand, it should be perfectly at home. I snorkel in the Florida Keys where these are common and lots of them seem to like having their foot attached in a hole in the rock that is under a thin layer of sand. My full grown RFA's that have spawned 3 times now are all in PVC end caps and set into the sand.

If you have any questions about how to get the RFA into the end cap or how to get it into the sand, just ask.

BTW, IMHO, spot feeding RFA's serves 2 purposes, they grow and stay healthy better and they are more likely to spawn if they are well fed.
