my dad and I both bought rock anenomes last Sunday. his opened that night. mine moved over some and stuck to rocks right at sand line.. And has yet to open up. it is still alive because I have tried to pick him up and move him, but he is stuck tight. 90 gallon 2 yr old tank.
Sal 1.024, kh 14, no3 20.. I know thays high the skimmer wasn't working for a period of time but has been functioning properly and cleaned out daily for 2 weeks. I am dosing w vodka at the time.
cal 502

pH 8.2,
I have lots of softies a couple torches, clowns, tang, foxfire, engineer goby. everything in my tank seems happy except this new anenome hasn't opened. yes I acclimated him and a reef rinse last taking over an hoir

They are finicky creatures, much like most nems. I had one hide under a rock where it got no light for 3 months, after being happy and spawning for the last 2 years. It ompletely lost all it's nice green color. It finally crawled out one day, and now sits happy. Think it's around 4 or 5 years old now.

If it's foot is attached, it will be fine and eventually come out. They will often times shrink up and hide in the sand in the wild when threatened.

They can get finicky while adjusting. Some finds spot they like on the first try. Some take a week or two to get settled.

I’ve had some stay closed and hidden in shade for weeks. One came out after two months, pale as a pepto and twice his original size, colored back up after a month or two, and then split.

If it isn’t detaching or melting, leave it be and just keep an eye on it in case things do turn south.

They take some time to adjust, if your corals are fine, the water is fine.
You should not move them at all, they can do this themselves but takes time to find the “right” spot.

I don't consider NO3 at 20 an issue really.... as others have mentioned give it some time. Foot locked in, is a great sign. Alk is really high at 14, but I don't see that adversely affecting the Nem. Anyone else think differently? Mine is at 12 usually and my Long Tent is still thriving.

well thank you. thank you all!

As others have said, your Alk is really high, I’d hold off on any Alk dosing/supplements until that comes back down. Other than that, sometimes they just need time.

One other thing, you really shouldn’t drip acclimate corals and anemones. They take in and expel water through diffusion, meaning they are self acclimating. The sooner you can get them into flowing water so they can properly respirate, the sooner they’ll extend their tentacles/polyps and acclimate to your tank. Just float (if the temp is off more than a couple degrees), dip (if applicable), and put in the tank. You’ll still want to drip acclimate fish and inverts (basically anything with hemoglobin or similar), and especially clams, but corals and anemones should go in the tank ASAP.

it a little open today. I shot some frozen redwoods toward its mouth... but it didn't close or try to catch them to eat them
.

found out why my new anenome wasn't doing well. my file fish is eating it. this morning pulled it out because it didn't look attached anymore, it wasn't. it still smelled good, had solid flesh, so I put him back in.. as soon as he settled onto the sand, my file fish was eating it.

while its tough in this hobby as we all want to see the great color of the new animal we just bought its best to give any new addition a week to acclimate. fish and corals all look better once they've gotten a little time.

KH high ( range 8-11)
Nitrate high for these guys (preferred <10)
Salt can be bumped one more point to 1.025

A little soon to tell if its truly unhappy or just adjusting

I caught file fish eating it. put him out of his misery that day and flushed him.
